I installed Windows 11 on my laptop last week. I have been using the new OS for the past week.
Here are some of the interesting features that I liked.
1) Start Menu and Taskbar. It’s modern, fresh, clean, and beautiful.
Start utilizes the power of the cloud and Microsoft 365 to show recent files no matter what platform or device you were viewing them on earlier, even if it was on an Android or iOS device.
2) Windows 11 introduces Snap Layouts, Snap Groups, and Desktops. The Idea of using a different PC at different places. Windows 11’s Virtual Desktops were created with the idea that a user uses their computer at different places. Meaning, a user should have a different workspace at home and another for work. Provide an even more powerful way to multitask and stay on top of what you need to get done. Create separate Desktops– imagine having a Desktop for work, gaming, or entertainment.
3) A faster way to connect to the people. Microsoft Teams is integrated into the taskbar.
4) Windows 11 brings news and information faster with Widgets – a new personalized feed powered by AI and best-in-class browser performance from Microsoft Edge.
5) Android apps come to Windows for the first time. Discover Android apps in the Microsoft Store and download them through the Amazon Appstore – imagine recording and posting a video from TikTok or using Khan Academy Kids for virtual learning right from your PC.
6) Next-Gen Gaming: The new Xbox and PlayStation is how their CPU, GPU, and storage subsystems are interconnected. DirectStorage is the equivalent for PCs. DirectStorage is expected to eventually lead to massive boosts in performance for applications that juggle vast amounts of data. Usually, that translates primarily to “games.”. Auto HDR is also making the jump from the latest Xbox consoles to PCs.
7) The new file manager looks great. The ribbon UI helps bring new and useful features upfront and is easy to use.
Here are some of the features and capabilities that I do not like in Windows 11.
8) If you are using Windows 10 you can upgrade to Windows 11 for free. But there are certain processor and hardware requirements that need to be fulfilled. My home desktop could not be upgraded but my work laptop got upgraded. Please contact our IT dept for more information.
9) It feels like it is a tad slower than Windows 10. The slowness is not very visible in my fast computers. You experience it is slow computers. It needs good hardware to perform.
10) Windows 11 stops the support for 32-bit architecture. Means many old computers will not be able to use Windows 11.
11) Cortona is missing. I use Cortona in my Windows 10 ☹.
12) Skype in dropped and replaced by Teams
